Forresters Beach, NSW
A classic Central Coast surf beach — 1 hour north of Sydney, 5 minutes from Terrigal, and loved by locals and surfers for its consistent beach breaks, wide sand, and off-leash dog beach.
About Forresters Beach
Forresters Beach (postcode 2260) sits on the Central Coast of New South Wales, tucked between Wamberal and Bateau Bay. It's one of the coast's most peaceful beach suburbs — no shopping strip, no crowds, just a wide stretch of golden sand, low headlands and native bushland running down to the surf.
Forresters Beach is a genuine surf beach. The shoreline faces east-northeast and picks up swell from most directions, producing consistent beach breaks that are great for surfers of all levels — from mellow rollers for longboards and learners to punchier sections when the conditions line up. Local surfers know it as a reliable alternative to the busier Terrigal and Avoca line-ups, with plenty of peaks to spread out along the beach.
The beach is patrolled in summer by the Forresters Beach Surf Life Saving Club, has consistent beach breaks that work in most swells, and includes a designated off-leash dog area at the northern end. It's a locals' beach — quieter than Terrigal or Avoca, and a favourite spot for sunrise walks, family swims and long weekends away from Sydney.

Things to Do at Forresters Beach
- Surfing at Forresters Beach — a reliable surf beach with beach breaks for all levels. Bring a longboard for the smaller days or watch the local crew when a solid east or south swell rolls in. Conditions are often best on a low-to-mid tide with a light offshore westerly.
- Sunrise walk on the sand — the eastern-facing beach delivers postcard sunrises year-round, best from the rocks at the southern end.
- Coastal walk to Terrigal — an easy 30–40 minute walk connecting Forresters, Wamberal Lagoon and Terrigal Beach.
- Off-leash dog beach — the northern end is a signposted off-leash area, popular with locals every morning.
- Body-boarding and swimming — the patrolled summer zone and gentle shore break make it a family-friendly alternative to the main surf peaks.
- Whale watching (May–Nov) — humpbacks pass close to the headlands during the annual migration.
- Bush and birdlife — Wamberal Lagoon Nature Reserve backs onto the beach with resident pelicans, kookaburras and rainbow lorikeets.
