For an unforgettable experience, drive 30 minutes south to the Hawkesbury River Oyster Shed at Mooney Mooney where you can shuck oysters and crack prawns at picnic tables right on the river — perfect as a stop on the drive up from Sydney.

For a special-occasion dinner: book Woy Woy Fishermen's Wharf (a waterfront institution since the 1920s) for a long Sunday lunch over seafood platters and a bottle of local Hunter Semillon. Closer to home, Coral Restaurant on the Terrigal seafront and The Cowrie (a chef's-hat fine-diner overlooking Terrigal Beach) both showcase Central Coast seafood at its most refined.
